FAQs about Inclusive Trauma Counseling In-Person in Los Angeles or Online in California
Frequently Asked Questions
How long do therapy sessions typically last?
Usually, we have 45-50 minute (i.e. “therapy hour”) sessions. However, if you are late, it will be shorter as we will still end our sessions on time out of respect for other clients after you.
What happens during the first therapy session?
The intake—really the first few sessions—will be us starting to get to know each other! I will ask you about your ethnic / cultural background(s), family of origin issues, childhood trauma(s), relationships, friendships, previous / current mental health challenges, and ultimate goals for therapy / life. I also want to know how you identify (sexual orientation, gender expression, pronouns, etc.).
How often will I need to come to therapy?
All clients start with sessions 1x / week. Why? Studies show weekly therapy sessions produce the best client outcomes (i.e. you reaching your goals sooner than later). However, if you are sick or have an emergency, you can always reschedule for a later time in the week.
How long will I need to come to counseling?
This depends on your goals and the amount of time and effort you put into therapy! Therapy can sometimes involve “homework” outside of our session time. In a nutshell: The more committed you are to your healing process, the sooner you will heal from your past trauma, achieve your goals for therapy, and feel equipped for future life / relationship challenges.
How much do sessions cost?
Sessions are $300.00 for the (initial) intake session, and $250.00 for all subsequent sessions. Payment via Zelle is required prior to each counseling session. I don’t currently have any sliding scale slots available.
Are sessions covered by my insurance?
Payment is out-of-pocket only. But we can give you a monthly superbill upon request (see next question).
How can I seek reimbursement from my insurance company?
You can submit your monthly superbills to your insurance company for potential reimbursement (of part or all of your session). This varies by insurance company, so call the number on the back of your insurance card to find out about your benefits!
Do you have evening and weekend appointments available?
At this time, I only see clients between 9am-3pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. I do not have availability outside of these days and times. However, in case of emergency, I can sometimes make an evening or weekend work.
Where do sessions take place?
Due to COVID-19 concerns and to accommodate clients throughout the state of California, all sessions are available online via telehealth. *Local L.A.-area clients only: For in-person sessions, my office is located at The Gardens in West L.A.
